The Cleveland Browns continue to find new ways to lose, as shown by their 27-20 defeat to the New York Jets. The loss has placed head coach Kevin Stefanski firmly on the hot seat, with his future uncertain. However, according to Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot, he may have earned himself a bit more time. “I think Kevin Stefanski is 100% totally safe,” she explained on the Orange and Brown Talk podcast on Monday.
“I think that [owner] Jimmy Haslam indicated even at the NFL annual meeting that [general manager] Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski were going to be breaking in rookie quarterbacks this year, and this was not the season in which they were going to have their feet held to the fire.
“I really don’t think Kevin is in any trouble right now. Maybe they’ll re-evaluate after the season.”

Her comments emphasize that the organization is taking a long-term approach despite the disappointing results. Stefanski holds a 42-51 record as head coach but has still made a notable impact on the franchise. In his first season, he led Cleveland to its first playoff appearance in 26 years and earned Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year honors.
Stefanski’s offensive scheme initially revitalized the Browns’ attack, and his leadership during the COVID-19 season united the team under challenging circumstances. He focused on earning player trust and building a culture centered on communication and vision, bringing steady and transparent leadership — a stark contrast to the Freddie Kitchens era in 2019. Unfortunately, that early momentum has since faded amid inconsistent offensive performances and recurring penalties.
