The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2026 NFL Draft is already facing heavy criticism, and this time, it is coming from someone who knows the franchise from the inside. Former defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko did not hold back while reacting to general manager Omar Khan’s draft decisions, calling the class an “absolute disaster” after the team selected quarterback Drew Allar in the third round.

For Steelers fans already divided over the team’s draft strategy, Fehoko’s blunt reaction only added more fuel to the debate.

Pittsburgh entered the draft with several major needs, especially at wide receiver and quarterback, while uncertainty around veteran Aaron Rodgers continued to hang over the franchise. Their first-round plans were reportedly disrupted when the Philadelphia Eagles jumped ahead of them to draft USC receiver Makai Lemon, forcing the Steelers to pivot and select offensive tackle Max Iheanachor instead.

Things improved slightly on Day 2 when Pittsburgh selected Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard, a move that many analysts viewed positively. But the bigger talking point came later when the team used the 76th overall pick on Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, a decision that quickly split opinion.

Fehoko, who spent time with the Steelers from 2023 to 2025, made his feelings clear on X.

I love Omar Khan but outside of Germie Bernard this draft has been an absolute disaster,” he wrote.

The criticism centered largely around the Allar pick. While the former Penn State quarterback had strong college production and was once viewed as a top quarterback prospect, questions about consistency and his recovery from a broken ankle made him a risky choice for some teams. The Steelers, however, clearly see him as a potential long-term option under center.

Allar threw for more than 7,000 yards during his college career and helped lead Penn State deep into the College Football Playoff conversation. Still, some fans believed Pittsburgh should have prioritized immediate help at wide receiver or defensive line instead of taking a developmental quarterback while Rodgers’ future remains uncertain.

The frustration also reflects a bigger issue, expectations around Omar Khan have grown quickly. After strong praise for previous offseasons and aggressive roster moves, Steelers fans have come to expect bold and clean draft execution. This class, at least early on, has not created that same confidence.

Not everyone agrees with Fehoko’s harsh assessment. Some believe Allar could become one of the biggest steals of the draft if he develops properly behind a veteran. Others see Bernard and later depth additions as enough reason for patience. But right now, the reaction remains mixed at best.

Calling a draft an “absolute disaster” before a single snap is played may sound extreme, but Fehoko’s words captured exactly how many Steelers fans are feeling. Drew Allar might eventually prove Omar Khan right, but until then, the criticism around Pittsburgh’s draft class is only getting louder.
