For Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is no longer just another tournament, it’s a chance to make history. The English brothers have surged into a commanding position, and a victory on Sunday could mean far more than just another trophy. For Alex especially, it could be career-changing.

The Fitzpatrick brothers produced a stunning third-round performance, carding a tournament-record 15-under 57 in the four-ball format to take a four-shot lead heading into the final round.

Their combined score of 30-under par put them ahead of the field and placed them firmly on the brink of becoming the first brothers to win the event together.

Matt, already one of the hottest names in golf after his recent RBC Heritage win over Scottie Scheffler, contributed six birdies and an eagle during the round. But much of the attention has also been on younger brother Alex, whose rise has been just as impressive. Fresh off his first DP World Tour title at the Indian Open, Alex added seven birdies and played a huge role in the late charge.

He played brilliant golf,” Matt said after the round. “His game has really turned a corner these last few months.” , he added.

For Alex, the stakes are even bigger. A win would earn him a two-year PGA Tour exemption through 2028, entry into major events like the PGA Championship, and a huge jump in career momentum. Ranked outside the top tier, this week could completely reshape his future.

The final round, however, shifts to the tougher alternate-shot format, where precision and trust matter even more. That challenge adds another layer to an already emotional Sunday for the brothers.

For Matt, it could mean another major step in an already brilliant season. For Alex, it could be the breakthrough moment of his career. Together, the Fitzpatrick brothers are chasing more than a title, they’re chasing history.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
